Season of the Witch
By this point, I'm pretty sure nobody's going to walk into SEASON OF THE WITCH with particularly high expectations. The film has reportedly sat on the shelf for at least a year, and the trailers make it look like some kind of SyFy Original, rather than a big-budget genre release starring Nicolas Cage. The early January release date doesn't inspire much confidence either, and truth be told, I was flabbergasted to get an invite to a press screening of this film, as I assumed it wouldn't screen for critics.

Rise of the Apes
Rupert Wyatt, the director of The Escapist is in post production with the newest Ape film. Written by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa, Rise of the Apes seems to be a remake or re-imagining of the ’72 film Conquest of the Planet of the Apes or a prequel to it.

The Princess and the Frog
Disney's return to old-fashioned hand drawn animation may take the rare step of pitching an African-American character in the lead, but some critics reckon it's a pretty formulaic concoction. Yet others point out that the film is filled with rich, vibrant characters and ravishing images from the paintbrushes of legendary animation directors Ron Clements and John Musker.

High School Musical 2
I know at least six full-grown women who love Grease 2. I also know two women and one gay man who adore Xanadu. Hell, I know one lunatic who thinks The Wiz is better than The Wizard of Oz. And I'm certainly not immune: You know that live-action Popeye musical? I love it. So it seems that just about every movie fan has some weird taste in musicals every once in a while. Which brings us to the out-of-nowhere phenomenon hit that became a global virus a few years back when "just another" made-for-Disney Channel movie debuted ... and became that hottest kiddie sensation since, like, The Cabbage Patch Kids. (Yeah, I'm old.)

Sometimes watching micro-budget horror offal requires all the patience of a world class fisherman. Sometimes you go an entire day without even the slightest nibble. You're sitting there, waiting. Hoping. But nothing. Everyone once in awhile you'll get that teaser where you're line starts to flash, where it looks like something promising is about to occur. Turns out just to be the wind or a wake current. Well ladies and gents, when watching Toni Harman's directorial debut Credo (The Devil's Curse), it was no doubt a rough day out at sea. I'm sitting there all day with my pole in hand like a friggin' putzkie. Then it happened. I caught something. A big something. And here's the catch: At one point during the film, a character admits she's a lesbian. One of her friends, without the slightest compunction, utters the phrase "oh, you drink from the furry cup? That's so cool!" Seriously, who needs knives and axes when you get a side splitter like that?
Without straying too far from formula or stock characters, “The Escapist” shapes a standard prison-break drama into a metaphysical study of freedom and reparation.
Set in a grim London institution (played to perfection by Kilmainham Jail in Ireland), the movie centers on Frank (Brian Cox), an aging lifer with a perilously drug-addicted daughter. Circling Frank are the usual suspects — the vulnerable new cellmate (Dominic Cooper), the resident psychopath (Steven Mackintosh), the ruthless king con (Damian Lewis) — but the stereotypes are beside the point: “The Escapist” has loftier goals than simply getting its characters from pokey to pavement.

You know what’s scary? Being chased around by a ghost. Oh and you know what would be even scarier? If the ghost wasn’t just chasing you but wanted to possess you body! Oh oh and what if the ghost was actually your dead evil twin whom you murdered in the womb? Oh oh oh and what if the ghost was actually created as a result of Nazi experiments during the holocaust! Congratulations you’ve just see The Unborn, an early contender for worst movie of the year.

Amusement is easily one of the most confusing horrormovies I have seen in awhile. It easily could have gotten a PG-13 rating had it cut 2 or 3 scenes and frankly that might have done the movie some good. Its quite muddled, very confusing and although shot well with some pretty god unknown actors the lack of a telling story makes the movie really difficult to enjoy.
A traumatized woman is questioned by a cop and a psychiatrist about three stories involving a clown, a hotel and a convoy, that involve her and two of her female friends from childhood.
Midnight Chronicles is based on the fantasy role-playing-game Midnight from Fantasy Flight games. I was unfamiliar with the RPG but its setting can perhaps best be summed up as: Lord Of The Rings, but the Dark Lord won. The Dark Lord in question is the fallen god Izrador, alias the Shadow in the North, and priests known as legates enforce the Shadow's oppressive rule.

Even though I was mildly disappointed in Superbad, I’m still a tremendous fan of Seth Rogen and am pretty excited to find out what’s going to happen with his bourgeoning career as a writer. He co-wrote Superbad, and he’s also co-writer on an upcoming comedy called The Pineapple Express, which reunites him with his former ‘Freaks and Geeks’ co-star James Franco on screen. Everything I’ve heard about the movie so far sounds absolutely inspired, and now one of the site’s long time friends has just dropped me an incredibly early review of the film which seems to confirmed all the early buzz about just how genius this script is.

Against the Current
A maudlin story of grieving and suicidal tendencies, Against the Current has a few things going for it--scenery, soundtrack, and Mary Tyler Moore--but they're not enough to keep the film from sinking under the weight of its heavy-handedness.
Thirty-five-year-old Paul (Joseph Fiennes) has been grieving over the accidental death of his pregnant wife for almost five years. His own suicide attempt in the wake of that tragedy was thwarted by his childhood friend, Jeff (Justin Kirk), who convinced him to keep on living for five years and then decide if he really wanted to die.

This second film by the German commercial director Markus Goller will inevitably remind most viewers of its more accomplished predecessor, "Goodbye, Lenin!," in the genre of "man, was life ever stupid in the former East Germany!" Luckily, "Friendship!" shifts focus to the other end of the spectrum, to concentrate on the comic and apparently true-life travails of two young Ossies who decide to head toward San Francisco in 1990 in search of freedom and real junk food.
This shift helps a lot, but the film ends up being crippled by the cliches of the fish-out-of-water, road-movie composite genre. Yet director Goller is nothing if not energetic, and he has an ability to keep things moving in the best Hollywood fashion.
Beverly Hills Ninja
A clan of ninjas find an abandoned treasure chest that has been washed onto shore, inside of which is a white baby boy. An ancient legend spoke of a foreigner who would come among the ninja and become a master like no other. The white boy, Haru (Chris Farley), is raised amongst the ninja, with the expectation that he may be the one of whom the legend speaks. However, doubts are quickly cast over Haru as being the great white ninja. Although he does possess some ninja traits, Haru is clumsy and does not really fit in, and does not graduate a ninja with the rest of his class. Left alone to guard the temple while the clan are on a mission, Haru disguised himself as a ninja when a blonde American woman comes in search of the services of one. One woman, Sally Jones (Nicollette Sheridan), is suspicious of her boyfriend, Martin Tanley (Nathaniel Parker), and sends Haru to a Tokyo harbor to investigate. Haru found out that Tanley and his boss, Nobu (Keith Cooke) are involved in a counterfeiting business, and also witnesses a murder. The clan are disappointed with Haru's actions when Tokyo police presumed that Haru is responsible for a murder. However, Haru admits that Sally was in trouble and that her name is a pseudonym. Haru departs from Tokyo to Beverly Hills on an airplane. Gobei (Robin Shou), the best ninja in Haru's class and adoptive brother, is sent by the clan to watch over and protect him.
