The sight of Harry Potter’s chum Ron Weasley smoking, taking drugs and trying to get laid aren’t scenes from the latest film in the wizard franchise, but rather Rupert Grint making the transition from child actor to a more mature role ahead of his appearance in the last two Potter movies. It’s an astute move to give an alternative option for casting agents which sees him in a more adult role ahead of the famous series of Potter movies, and one that will appeal most to fans of the television series Skins.

Tormented

Tormented
As far as horror movies go, Tormented makes for some pretty uncomfortable viewing. Not because there is a lot of gratuitous blood and gore, but because it deals with the very topical issue of bullying.

As the film starts we are in a chaotic present in which something horrible has taken place. As we flash back to a funeral 5 days earlier, it soon becomes clear that no-one really cares about the deceased, and the students' wake is just an excuse for a big party.

The first death goes unreported, and it is the only clue that something is not quite right. It is not until about an hour into the movie that we are actually confronted with the undead, in the form of the zombified protagonist Darren Mullett (actor Calvin Dean) who has returned to take revenge on his tormentors. Up to that point we have been watching an hour of taunts, the kind of bullying our avenger would have been the target of. We only see it happen to him through phone movies of the attacks he endured which had been posted online to further humiliate and vilify him.

Chatroom

Chatroom
There was a time when Hideo Nakata revolutionized the horror genre with a long-haired spooky girl that crept out of a well. Thanks to The Ring, half the world discovered that there were other ways of dealing with the horror cinema besides Hollywood's way, and soon other Japanese films followed the trend. So as a long time fan of both horror and Asian movies, I was both expectant to see Chatroom, one of the latest works of Nakata, but also a little reluctant because honestly I wasn't very attracted by its premise.

Something Borrowed

Something Borrowed
Romantic comedies aren’t designed to challenge their audience. They’re meant as the most disposable of mainstream movies where a couple or an aspiring couple can go on a date, look at the love they want to have, and then leave for a night of necking and heavy petting. If it were a more mature film and not the cinematic equivalent of a tissue, Something Borrowed would trust its audience to understand that the lead characters are good people who have done a bad thing but not an unforgivable thing. Instead, the movie twists itself into knots trying to clear our consciences, get us to root for male and female lead, and hate Kate Hudson with every fiber of our being. John Krasinski does his best to save the film, but it’s not enough to overcome the conceit of watching two people do their best to keep their love alive while sparing the feelings of their obnoxious friend/fiancée.

Alpha and Omega

Alpha and Omega
The movie Alpha and Omega trailers and commercials may mislead you into thinking that this would be a typical children’s movie, or even as far as saying that this movie is a copycat of Shrek. So when I went to see the movie, I was surprised to find that it did not bore me or even copy other popular kids’ movies. I would even dare to say that I enjoyed this movie! It was cute and funny, with a little bit of good values thrown into the mixture.

Amusement

Amusement
Amusement is easily one of the most confusing horrormovies I have seen in awhile. It easily could have gotten a PG-13 rating had it cut 2 or 3 scenes and frankly that might have done the movie some good. Its quite muddled, very confusing and although shot well with some pretty god unknown actors the lack of a telling story makes the movie really difficult to enjoy.

A traumatized woman is questioned by a cop and a psychiatrist about three stories involving a clown, a hotel and a convoy, that involve her and two of her female friends from childhood.

Stardust

Stardust
Stardust, based on the acclaimed illustrated novel by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess, takes viewers to the mystical land of Stormhold, where stars walk, ships fly, and magic is real. A fantasy in the tradition of The Princess Bride, Stardust leavens its mature fairy tale with elements of romance, horror, and comedy. There's less whimsy to be found here than in The Princess Bride, but the film is likely to appeal to the same group of older children and adults that appreciated Rob Reiner's classic.

Enter the Void

Enter the Void
Thanks to Irreversible, the notoriously graphic film that stirred up Cannes and Sundance audiences a few years ago, Gaspar Noé is already well known as a pusher of buttons and a churner of stomachs. His latest, Enter the Void, is certainly not a departure from that, but it is quite a bit more palatable, not to mention more thematically mature. From a technical standpoint, it is a marvel. From every other standpoint, it is totally jacked up. But I mean that in a good way. I think.

Noé revels in trying the viewer's patience, and Enter the Void commences its assault in the opening credits, which are set to pounding techno music and bright flashing lights, and sped up so fast they're impossible to read. It's Noé's little joke, rushing hilariously through the credits in order to leave more time for the film itself ... which is 161 minutes long and is frequently, shall we say, unhurried.
